What costume are you wearing?

As you are donning your costume tonight, think about the costume you wear every day.

My costume is the costume of overachievement, and I find that many of my clients and colleagues don the same costume daily. I've been an overachiever since grade school and the driver of that overachievement is buried deep in my life experiences. Now I regard those life experiences as a gift, and I leverage them for the good of my clients and my community.

When I was younger I lacked the awareness and perspective I have now, though, and I did not know the ways in which those experiences influenced my leadership.

For those of you in leadership:

  • Are you aware of how your life experiences affect how you lead?

  • What are your demons and how do you address them?

  • Are your experiences a blessing, a curse, or both?

  • How can you leverage your experiences for you, your team, and your community?
